Acupuncture

What’s the point of Acupuncture?
Western Medical Acupuncture is a modern, research-based approach developed from centuries old traditional methods used to provide pain relief. Acupuncture may be successful by itself or when used alongside osteopathy to compliment osteopathic treatment.

Acupuncture is recommended in the NHS National Institute of Health and Clinical Excellence guidelines as an effective way to treat low back pain.

What happens during an Acupuncture treatment?
Single use, sterile, disposable acupuncture needles are inserted into the patients skin, either locally at the site of pain or distally, such as in the hands or feet.  The needles rest in the skin and are left for up to twenty minutes or stimulated by the practitioner before simply being taken out.

What should I wear for an Acupuncture treatment?
If it is appropriate and you are comfortable to do so, your osteopath will ask you to dress down to your underwear, if you are uncomfortable to do this please wear baggy clothes such as shorts or a track suit.

You are welcome to bring a friend or relative with you if it makes you feel more comfortable.

How much does an Acupuncture treatment cost?
The current fees are £38 per visit, payable by cash or cheque.  We are also registered with some private health insurance companies, please ask when you book your appointment.

How long does an appointment last?
Your first visit will normally last approx 45 minutes and subsequent visits will normally last for half an hour. However, please note that these appointment lengths may vary as some conditions need extra time and some require less time.
